COMMISSIONS

Booking a commission is really easy.  Once you have chosen your reference photo and portrait size, email me your photo(s) so we can ensure they are suitable to work with.

At the time of booking I require a 25%  booking fee which secures your commission placement in my next available opening. The remaining balance will then be due once your portrait has been completed.

TIME SCALE

Coloured pencils are a slow medium and the process takes time to build each layer to create a realistic portrait. Time frames for completing portraits can vary depending on the complexity of detail, size of the portrait and number of subjects. Therefore it can take anywhere between 4 - 12 weeks to complete from start to finish.

Please bare this in mind if you are purchasing a portrait as a gift for a special occasion.

At the time of booking I will be able to estimate how long your portrait is likely to take.

CHOOSING A REFERENCE PHOTO

When choosing a reference photo try to think about what captures your pets character the most.

The quality of the photo plays a huge part in the outcome of your portrait. Sharp, high resolution, detailed photos enable me to include as much detail as possible resulting in a better portrait, especially the eyes. They say eyes are the windows to the sole, this is especially true when it comes to portraiture, more detailed and clear the eyes are the more your furry friend shines through.

Lighting is also key. Natural lighting is normally best as this shows true fur tones and a more true to like photo, compared to artificial or use of a flash which can result in harsh shadows, washed out highlights and not enough detail.

I understand that sometimes this is not possible due to your beloved furry friend crossing over the rainbow bridge. For memorial portraits I will try to capture as much detail as possible. In cases of low quality or less detailed image, small sized portraits would be more suitable so you can still have a unique gift to remember them by.

If you are unsure what photo to use I am happy to receive multiple images so we can decide which one would make the best portrait for you to cherish.
